The main aim of forest school is to encourage curiosity and exploration so that the children learn all about the natural environment through play. It gives children the opportunity to achieve and develop confidence through independent tasks and builds self-esteem, team work and problem solving skills. Forest school allows children to be active and experience appropriate risk and challenge, drive their own learning and develop a strong, positive relationship with their natural world. Children develop practical skills such as fire lighting, shelter building and the responsible use of tools. Each session is fully risk assessed.
School sessions take place on school grounds. We have qualified practitioners who are experienced in this specialised learning approach and all children have regular sessions in our outdoor learning areas. We request that parents send in some old clothes and wellingtons so that children can explore our natural environment without fear or inhibition.
